Startup Weekdays: EpicBets, Three Weeks After Startup Weekend Vancouver
On November 18, 2011, ten people were standing in the middle of the Segal School of Business’ lobby discussing their next move. Ahead of them were 2 intense days of building a mobile game that would change the way friends bet on sports games. There was an original idea, and now there was a team to execute it. I was a part of that team.
54 hours later, we would present an application named EpicBets to the public, judges, and potential investors. We wouldn’t get the first place, but we would win “Best Presentation” and, generally speaking, have a great time at Startup Weekend Vancouver.
Yet, after the dust settled, there would be only 1 question left: “Should we keep going?”
The answer was “yes.”
Epic Introductions
Welcome to the our brand new blog!
To those of you, who have been following us during the Startup Weekend, we’d like to say thanks, because without you, we would not have achieved as much in such a short period of time. The best part is that you, probably, already know what EpicBets is all about and have signed up to be among the first people to play.
In case, you’re just joining us, check out this video of our presentation. It should give you a clear sense of what we’re building.
“EpicBets makes friendly sports betting more fun by creating a more engaging mobile gaming experience. Players bet virtual points, unlock achievements and win rewards.”

Moving Forward
Over the course of the upcoming weeks, we’ll be sharing the details of our journey from an idea to a finished product. We will also be posting some cool stuff about the world of sports, sports betting and mobile entertainment. We believe that smartphones are an amazing platform for all sorts of fun, social games and apps. And as we are building one of our own, we’d love to keep you in the loop of the coolest stuff for your iPhones, Androids and Blackberries.
In January, we plan to release a limited version of EpicBets. If you want to give it a try, click here to sing up, and we’ll send you an invitation when ready.
